How We Met and Fell in Love
They both met when they were really young; so young that both of them have forgotten the exact date and time, maybe around 13 years ago. Rheza was a senior in high school and Cynthia was a freshman. It was not the first encounter people often describe as love at first sight, or anything cliché that comes out of a story book. Maybe because at that point in time, both of them weren’t really planning to make their relationship more than just friendship. But the story didn’t end there, of course, or you wouldn’t be here, reading this story right now. It may not be something important at that time to them, but when they met again several years after the first encounter, Cynthia took Rheza’s first kiss. After that, they never talked to each other again, until a few years later. You could say that they both downed some drinks before the kiss, so it was nothing romantic. But maybe, just maybe, that foundation of pure friendship they had in the beginning was what made their relationship stronger and more beautiful today.
After the first kiss, they stayed as good friends. Never astray, just somewhere a long the line of friends and familiar strangers, if that makes sense. They shared daily conversations, and Rheza knew that he could share stories with Cynthia and vice versa without the implication of having romantic feelings for each other. Things were simpler back then, people didn’t misjudge and misinterpret good intentions to be more than what they are. Even despite the kiss, they made it clear they were not to be together yet. So yes, it was still possible for a girl and a boy to be good friends.
After high school, Rheza moved out to continue his studies in Sydney, Australia. By the time he came back to Indonesia, it was Cynthia’s turn to leave for Switzerland to obtain her degree. They spent almost 4 years not talking to each other, apart from occasional comments on social media, birthday wishes, etc., never anything more prudent.
When it could have rekindled
After getting his degree, Rheza eventually landed several jobs that led him to be in charge of a coffee brand from Italy. The role led him to visit their origins in Italy and that was the first time he contacted her after their relationship went to a vacuum state for almost 4 years. He would have come and visited her at Switzerland where she was studying if it weren’t for his tight schedule and the fact that he had to go back to Indonesia to get back to work immediately. She also considered coming down to Italy to visit and accompany him during his visit to Europe. The tickets were almost booked, hotels too, but I guess their relationship was still being tested and they still had a long way to go, so it never happened. They both continued to live their lives separately, miles apart.
When it really rekindled
Cynthia was done with her degree in June 2015. If it weren’t for her parents’ demands, she would have continued her life in Switzerland because well, what’s not to love about Switzerland? But she had to go back home and help with her parents’ business. Towards the end of 2015, she finally decided to try out something on her own, something related to her degree, and that led her to Rheza, again. They were back at it, with constant conversations and everything life related, but they had to keep it professional because they were both still involved with someone else at that point in time. Rheza helped her out with her questions, since she basically left Indonesia her whole adult life and had no idea how to start her own business in Indonesia. And that was how they got back at it.
Finally, in early 2016, when they both just couldn’t deny their feelings for each other anymore and have steered clear from their other relationships, they finally got together on the last day of May 2016. He asked her to be his wife just a few months after that. Yes it was short, but they were never more sure about anything in their life.
